When and where we eat matters
Half of survey respondents said they eat out 2-3 times a week and the most common times to eat out are evening followed by afternoon. Dining in is the most frequent way to order food, followed closely by taking out. Gen Zers are the most likely to order food from drive-thru windows, while Boomers are most likely to dine in.
How do you dine?
According to our survey participants, most of us in Gainesville take a break from the kitchen every week. More than 88% of survey takers eat out at least once a week, and 50% of all participants eat out 2-3 times a week. Only about 10% said they eat out once or twice a month, and less than 2% eat out less than monthly.

Where do you go to eat?
The most popular eateries for our survey takers are dine-in restaurants, fast casual spots, and cafes/coffee shops. About 60% frequent food trucks and only 41% of Boomers sample food from these restaurants on wheels.
Generationally, how we eat is shifting, with Millennial and Gen Z community members frequenting a wider variety of places to eat, from fast food to upscale restaurants. For instance, just 37% of Boomers grab convenience and to-go food items, compared to more than 80% of Millennials and Gen Zers. Gainesville’s middle-aged and young diners appear most willing to venture wherever the good food is.
